The Morton Family Blog

Thanks for taking time and stopping by and reading our family blog. As a family of 6 we are busy and hope to encourge everyone to understand that everyone is different in his or her own way and that people shouldn't be looked at for their size but for their selves. Our youngest daughter Jalinn was born with dwarfism and we hope to raise awareness for the Little People community.

Apple Pickin Time

Yesterday we went Apple Pickin at the Weston Red Barn Farm with my sister, brother in law (Corey) and my nephew Brycen.  When we got up to my sister's place it was raining so we had to wait a while for the rain to move on out and then it was time to go.  We had a great time as always.  The kids love walking around eating apples that they pick.

The Wedge

Here is a picture of the wedge that Jalinn uses with playtime on the floor.  It is to help keep her back straight.  You can use it in a chair as well.  We just use it on the floor since that is where Jalinn is the most comfortable.

Jalinn's Orthopedic Appointment

On August 15th Jalinn had her 10 month orthopedic appointment.  We have been waiting for this appointment for a while.  I was concerned about her back.  She had kyphosis (curve of the lower spine) going on and it seemed like it was not getting any better with her not walking.  Last October when we where there Dr Olney told us that we needed to watch it and if it started to give her any pain to let him know.  Thankfully it didn't so we just wanted.  Once she started to stand and walk more in the last couple of months I noticed just by holder her that the curve had gone down somewhat so I was excited to see what Dr Olney would say. Once we arrived it was xray time and then off to the room to wait on the doctor. When he walked in Jalinn was walking around and he was happy to see it.  He showed me her xray and the kyphosis has gone down so much it is wonderful.  I was so happy!!!  Getting her to walk and use the wedge that her PT provided has helped out so much. The wedge is just what is sounds like, it is used to help her sit up straight when sitting on the floor at play time.  She was never really happy about it but it was like she knew she needed to use it. Now we don't have to go back for another 10 months!!!  YAY!!!

Here are the pics of her xray from October 2010 and August 2011...you can see a big difference.

Family Fishing Day

Last Sunday Jason was finally off work for a day so we opted to have a family fishing day. We took the kids to a couple different conservation places.  Jason loves finding new ones and so do the kids.  We did not have any luck in the fishing area but it was a fun time.  When we arrived we first stop and had a picnic lunch and then we went fishing and walked around the area.  We had a great family day!!!

Jalinn Walking More and More

Jalinn is walking more and more on her own.  It is so cute to see her walk with no help.  We meet with her PT, OT and Speech Therapist 2 weeks and one of the goals is to have her walking 95% of the time in 6 months...well we are almost there.  I would say she is walking about 50% of the time.  She is climbing on everything and getting into everything as well.  I will say she is much happier now that she can get up and walk to what she wants now.  She is not talking alot yet at 19 months but her therapist think that with her walking more now it will come.  POLP Question for you: What age did you kiddo start to talk?  Jalinn is only saying dada, mama, taytay and that is pretty much it.

Here are some video's of her walking.

Kaylie's 8th Birthday

Is second born already 8...how did that happen?  It seems like we just brought her home from the hospital.  I love you so much Kaylie Grace!!!

Kaylie's actual birthday fell on a weekend this year so it worked out great that we were able to celebrate her party with her friends and family on her birthday.  This year she wanted to have a swim party so we had her party at the Belton Community Center indoor pool with friends and family.  She had a blast.  The theme was iCarly..I think everyone girl is into iCarly or something like it.  If they had Justin Beiber stuff I am sure it would have that for the theme.  The kids got to swim longer then planned since someone from other party had an accident in the pool and we all had to get out for an hour so they could clean it.  It worked out though we had cake opened presents and then the kids got to swim in the large pool for a while.  Luckily the kids didn't mean as long as they where swimming and having fun.

Thanks to everyone that came out for Kaylie's 8th Birthday!!!

Happy 4th of July...better late than never.

I know I am a month off.  I guess better late than never.  I hope everyone had a great 4th of July.  We did!!  We spent the day and evening at my parents house.  We had a mini family reunion at their house for my mom's dad side of the family during the day.  It was great to see some of my great aunt and uncles and to meet family that I have never met before.  That night we shot off fireworks with my cousins that were up here from Louisiana.

Here are a few pics of the kiddos their 4th of July outfits.
