The Morton Family Blog

Thanks for taking time and stopping by and reading our family blog. As a family of 6 we are busy and hope to encourge everyone to understand that everyone is different in his or her own way and that people shouldn't be looked at for their size but for their selves. Our youngest daughter Jalinn was born with dwarfism and we hope to raise awareness for the Little People community.

Jalinn's Orthopedic Appointment

On August 15th Jalinn had her 10 month orthopedic appointment.  We have been waiting for this appointment for a while.  I was concerned about her back.  She had kyphosis (curve of the lower spine) going on and it seemed like it was not getting any better with her not walking.  Last October when we where there Dr Olney told us that we needed to watch it and if it started to give her any pain to let him know.  Thankfully it didn't so we just wanted.  Once she started to stand and walk more in the last couple of months I noticed just by holder her that the curve had gone down somewhat so I was excited to see what Dr Olney would say. Once we arrived it was xray time and then off to the room to wait on the doctor. When he walked in Jalinn was walking around and he was happy to see it.  He showed me her xray and the kyphosis has gone down so much it is wonderful.  I was so happy!!!  Getting her to walk and use the wedge that her PT provided has helped out so much. The wedge is just what is sounds like, it is used to help her sit up straight when sitting on the floor at play time.  She was never really happy about it but it was like she knew she needed to use it. Now we don't have to go back for another 10 months!!!  YAY!!!

Here are the pics of her xray from October 2010 and August 2011...you can see a big difference.

  1. Awwesome news!!! Can you post a picture that wedge you are talking about? We also got wedges from Amelia's PT and I wonder if they are the same. It makes such a difference when we make sure our girls sit straight. I recommend yoga - cobra pose does miracles as well :-) So happy to hear that Jalinn's kyphosis corrects itself so well!
